About the Carillon
Ellen Dickinson compiled and edited a booklet entitled "The Foreman Carillon" in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the carillon in 2006, and it provides excellent documentation of the installation of our carillon in 1986. Copies of the booklet are available in the church sanctuary and in the church office. The source of the photos and information is from Carillon Committee Chair, Carl Coppersmith. Carl assembled the documentation during the contract and installation phase of the Foreman Carillon here at SUMC.

Memorial Day Concert

On Monday, May 28 from 12:30-1:30 pm, nationally known carillonneur, Daniel K. Kehoe, will play patriotic music in honor of American Service Men & Women who have given their lives for their country. It is both a solemn and happy occasion as we reflect on the special memories of loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation of ours. Bring chairs and a picnic and enjoy the sound of our world class 55-bell Foreman Carillon. The Simsbury Memorial Day Parade begins shortly after. Please click here for a program of the  music that will be played.

Learn to Play the Carillon

Carilloneur David Maker will begin holding regular carillon sessions to those interested in learning and will also teach a technique called "Change Ringing" where small groups play musical patterns on the bells. It’s easy to learn, fun to do, and doesn't require music reading or keyboard experience. In group sessions, everyone gets to encourage each other while building a community of support for the instrument, therefore, sessions are intended for adults as well as kids!

Weekly sessions are underway and meet every Thursday at 6:50 pm. Please click here for session details and a bio for David.
